EnTravesti Opera Ensemble was founded in 2008 as an answer to a growing interest in gender ambiguity and cross dressing in opera. The ensemble was created by mezzo sopranos CN Lester and Anne Rebecca Højlund after they discovered a shared interest in gender representation and identity in opera. As mezzo sopranos they frequently work with much of the operatic repertoire which was originally created for or sung by castrato singers in operas by Monteverdi, Gluck and Handel, along with their contemporaries.
